Sigma-AldrichFIRST COMMERICALLY AVAILABLE PROTEOMICS STANDARD
01.11.06 ST. LOUIS, MO - Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ: SIAL) announced the release of the Universal Proteomics Standard during the HUPO Protein Test Sample Standards/NIST Workshop, an educational session prior to the HUPO 5th Annual World Congress. The standard, a complex mixture of 48 human proteins, was developed in close collaboration with the ABRF Proteomics Standards Research Group (sPRG). The Universal Proteomics Standard is expected to enable researchers to better assess proteomics strategies, troubleshoot protocols and normalize results from day to day and lab to lab.The protein mixture was evaluated by more than 100 independent proteomics laboratories worldwide in an independent study to assess the analytical capabilities of participants and compare the strengths of various analytical strategies. Results of the study were presented in February 2006 at the annual meeting of the ABRF. Responding to the need of the Proteomics community for a complex reference standard and anticipating the utility of this particular mixture following completion of the study, Sigma-Aldrich is proud to launch the first commercially available standard for Proteomics researchers worldwide.
